The Role​

Key Responsibilities

Management: Responsible for leading the yard staff and ensuring that operations run smoothly and to the agreed schedule and align with estimated costs for project-based tasks.

Planning: Plan labour requirements to ensure all duties, loading/unloading, can be met on time and in a safe manner.

Site equipment & plant: Ensure that all access equipment is site-ready and compliant with H&S requirements.

Compliance: Ensure that the yard and workshop spaces comply with fire access and egress requirements.

Maintenance: Ensure all areas are kept clean and all rubbish from all areas is moved daily.

Health and safety: Responsible for all aspects of health and safety relating to activities within the yard and workshop space area.

Security: Ensure that all areas, access points, and fire exits are locked or unlocked at the start and finish of each day, or that arrangements are made in your absence.

Fleet vehicles: Plan & implement a maintenance/MOT diary to ensure all vehicles are regularly maintained and roadworthy/compliant.

Forklift: Plan & implement a maintenance diary for daily/monthly checks and record on Fleet check system.

Fleet Vehicles: Manage vehicle loading to ensure loads are safe and do not exceed weight limitations.

Efficient yard operations: Ensure that the yard runs smoothly, efficiently and safely.

Compliance and security: Maintain the yard and workshop areas to be compliant with regulations and internal security arrangements.

Key Responsibilities

Delivery of major scenic construction projects and directing the team from initial brief to installation on site.

Assisting and providing quotes for fabrication costs, including materials and resources required to deliver to the client brief.

Maintaining and contributing to the estimation and scheduling of productions to ensure that a smooth transition into the workshop is achieved.

Working with the design and drafting teams to ensure that designs are realistic and achievable given the client budgets.

Manage operational processes of a project whilst maintaining an efficient workflow in line with the budget and specifications.

Providing guidance on value engineering each production to maximise quality and control costs.
-
Provide key direction to the team regarding planning, design, and production.

Write and carry out CPP, risk assessments and method statements where required.

Contribute to the implementation of H&S across the lifespan of the production.

Support the teams and, where necessary, attend client sites, especially to oversee more complex installations.

Ensure that cost, quality, and time aspects of each production are managed according to the key objectives of the client brief.

Ensure the delivery of productions is on time and on budget and meets the quality expectations of the client.

Key Requirements​​

Minimum 3 years' relevant experience of complex fabrication construction production management, ideally within the events and set-building industry or retail fit-out-related sectors.
-
Exceptional knowledge and understanding of materials, including timber, metals, plastics, and a variety of finishes.
-
Excellent attention to detail, including joinery, metalwork, paint, electrical construction and installation, as well as fine finishing where necessary.
-
Strong engineering knowledge and an ability to guide designers, project managers and technical draughtspeople to achievable and cost-effective conclusions.
-
Good understanding of project finances: material / supplier costs, labour, and profit margins.
-
Experienced in forecasting, reviewing and foreseeing project risks.
-
Demonstrable experience of maintaining and controlling production costs through value engineering (e.g., cash flow, profitability).
-
Good working knowledge of AutoCAD and/or Vectorworks with an ability to produce construction models and/or technical drawings for construction.
-
Strong ability to work to deadlines, manage own time independently and prioritise work on multiple projects simultaneously.
-
Experience in liaising with external H&S personnel where necessary.

Good knowledge of sustainable material sourcing and advising on the best methods of production to achieve overall business sustainability aims.

Competent using the latest computer software and communication tools, including the ability to track costs and resources using our business software systems.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Hands-on experience of joinery desired but not essential.

A full UK driving licence is desired but not essential.​
